Summary
The sight makes Max laugh again, even harder, until he’s breathless. His hands are still against Charles, but they’re both leaning in now, foreheads bumping together in a way that would probably be painful if Max could feel anything right now.
“This is insane,” he breathes.
“What is?”
Max isn’t sure. This conversation. This entire night. The last few weeks that they’ve spent accidentally ending up in all the same places.
“I thought you were gonna hit me,” he says, instead of answering. “That last time? In the coffee shop, y’know.”
“Were you hoping that I would?"
Max doesn’t know how to explain that he’s been waiting to feel the impact for twenty years.

Summary
Miami's humidity does what suppressant patches were never built for. It loosens them, slow and sticky, until eight years of careful management starts seeping out at the seams.
Max has been managing his biology since he was sixteen. He can manage one weekend. He could, anyway, if Charles Leclerc were not paying very close attention. He could, anyway, if Charles Leclerc were not the only alpha in the paddock who has ever made him want to stop managing at all.
A one-shot about a faulty patch, a Mediterranean breeze that isn't supposed to exist this far west, and what happens when an alpha who has been very polite for nine months stops being polite at sunset.

By the time they started calling him Il Predestinato, Carlos had already started to have a hard time looking at him.

The lights from the harbor reflected faintly in Charles' eyes.
"You know," Charles said slowly, "sometimes I think we're both very stupid."

Bookmarker's Notes
Because the rules had changed, the grid had grown up, and people were getting married in white suits across the courtyard.
And Max was still standing in the grass, watching the red kart disappear around the corner, waiting for a lap that was never going to come.
