Summary
Throughout the years, Dean had dabbled in his fair share of overindulgences—women, food, alcohol. Violence, even. When he needed something to do with his hands, he’d always known he could simply find any and all of these things at whatever local bar was nearby his and Sam's motel room.
And besides, the weight of a beer bottle against his palm doesn't really feel all that different from that of a gun’s grip, especially when the first time both of them had been placed into his hands had been by his father.
And he figures that the food thing came from his mother, maybe. Some of his earliest memories had been sitting at the counter in the kitchen while she cooked, thinking to himself that he'd eat whatever she put in front of him as long as they could be there, together, forever.
Or maybe he was always going to end up like this, and it wasn't his parents’ fault at all that he was fucked up.
No point in wondering. He'd never know.

Doug noticed it first. Carter had that look. That look that wasn’t just tired or stressed or “I’ve-been-in-surgery-for-eight-hours,” but that weird haunted thing, like he was trying not to be. Trying not to be seen. Head down, stethoscope all tangled like he didn’t have the energy to fix it. Caffeine on his breath, skin pale, lips just a little too blue.

But she couldn't unhear it. She couldn't forget Rose's tone and her words, and everything they implied. And she didn't know what to do with it, or where to put it.
She watched Carter, saw his smiles, his ‘all-in’ persona, and his cheerful demeanor and she wondered how far and how deep the abyss beneath it went.

Summary
Langdon comes back from rehab with feverish eyes and a near-constant grimace. He's just as fidgety as ever, just as snarky, and just as competent, but he doesn't look Robby in the eyes. Robby returns the favor. The trust between them disintegrated as soon as he pushed Langdon out the door. As soon as Langdon decided not to tell Robby he was struggling. Neither of them know how to get it back.
Robby has to wonder though; if he'd tried harder to fix their relationship, maybe this wouldn't have happened.
Frank Langdon angst, based off the original character description that he overcame a 'devastating back injury' to become a doctor.
