The smoke in the air burned his throat as he climbed, making his way up with the end of the hose looped around his arm. Buck was not nervous, even when the sensation of sweat dripping down his face reminded him of the rain, and when a distant explosion from within the warehouse they were working on reminded him of thunder. Reaching the top, he caught his breath and prepared to hose down a row of windows crackling with flame.

“Why did you bring me here?” Jayce asked after a long pause. He clutched the bracelet on his wrist and pleaded, “Why did you ever give me this? Why?”
The figure seemed to regard him whilst deep in thought. It considered him carefully before raising its head fully, revealing the face beneath the shadow of its hood. Jayce couldn’t help the gasp that escaped his mouth.
Viktor.
Older. More powerful. Tired. His eyes shone as he looked at Jayce, a myriad of emotions swirling within. He seemed to be waiting for him to say something, but nothing was said. Jayce was frozen in shock. This Viktor, not his Viktor, smiled softly at him.
