“He thanked me for standing there to catch it, boy. He meant it.” The giant looked up from his washing to Aegon, and his eyes widened dramatically at Maekar. Aegon turned to follow his gaze, and his big eyes became even wider than the giant’s.
“Aegon,” said Maekar, voice deathly quiet. “Where is your hair?”

“I jested earlier about you cowering like a maiden,” he recalled.
Dunk took a breath and held it fast as Lyonel walked his fingers up Dunk’s chest to his throat. A wild thing turned about in his mind, hackles raised and blood hot. It seemed Lyonel fanned its flames, heedless or perhaps fully aware of what he roused.
“You have ‘polished your lance’, eh?”
“I’ve… what?” Lyonel’s head met Dunk’s chest with a laugh. He had enough time to begin to feel offended before Lyonel looked up from beneath a stray tangle of hair. His eyes glinted in the candlelight; Dunk’s mouth went dry.
“Fucked, lad. You’ve fucked someone, surely?” Lyonel searched his face for an answer. Dunk wished he had the skill of lying when pressed, but no easy tale came to his lips.
“No. Seven fucking hells, you’re taking me for a fool, aren’t you?”

A grumbling purr leaves Lyonel’s chest. “Yeah, that’s it. That’s a good girl, being so gentle with our poor knight.”
His hands stroke Dunk’s face as you pull away slowly, a string of saliva connecting your lips. Dunk pouts when it snaps and you sit straighter in his lap.
“Now…” Lyonel leans down to whisper in Dunk’s ear, teeth skimming the shell of his ear. “Our pretty little doe is going to show you just how good she is, okay? And you’re going to be a good lad and count the inches. You can count, can’t you?”
Dunk nods dumbly.
“Good boy. Now hold her hips.”

Lyonel’s post-tournament hangovers rarely had anything to do with the amount of spirits he’d consumed.
Even though it left Lyonel feeling like the ass end of a mule, there was nothing like days on end of having his blood up, of tearing through the lists against any alpha, beta, or omega that was brave enough to tap his shield. The noise, the chaos, the crash-splinter of lances and the bone-jarring impact of melee weapons, all of it helped alleviate the storm perpetually trapped underneath Lyonel’s skin.
Lyonel leaves Ashford without fanfare, without answers, and without Duncan.
Or so he thought.
