Light’s breathing quickens and he’s painfully aware that Mello can likely hear the erratic beating of his heart with the minimal distance between them. “Gods don’t get desperate,” Mello continues, his voice heavy and quiet. “And Light Yagami? Oh he’s desperate.”
“How can you be so certain?” Light counters, the words forming over Mello’s lips as he does. He winces at the way Mello’s grip tightens punishingly in his hair, but still he does not pull him away.
“You are nothing more than a mortal man. A man with delusions of grandeur.” Mello’s free hand cups Light’s cheek in an act that would be considered intimate in any other circumstance, before he pulls him in. Their lips meet, fierce and insistent, the kiss a sharp, challenging claim– a collision of two very different worlds where there is room for neither of them.

Summary
Light claimed his great victory after years of scheming and dreaming about his New World. He was now the only God ruling humanity toward a brighter future, with just a stroke of his pen and the brilliance of his mind. He had been riding in a wave of bliss since the day he officially became a divine being. He didn’t get out of that without a scratch, however. But Light couldn’t complain about the privileged treatment he received from his most faithful follower.
Mikami was right there for him, at his disposal and delighted to help with anything and everything, always ready to make Light’s life more comfortable.
But the joy of his triumph was accompanied by some old, forgotten desires, coming back to Light with alarming intensity. Well, perhaps Mikami’s dedicated assistance could be of use in another matter as well.
