Summary
This story is set after Crystalised and in a universe where the merge will not happen. I loved the idea of Lloyd needing to confront his Oni side, and was disappointed at how briefly he used it in Crystalised. I wanted to continue that arc, giving him some motivation to explore it further. I also like the sibling relationship between Wu and Garmadon, good and evil, opposites yet in the same family. I thought it would be interesting if this dynamic continued to the next generation. This does mean I have introduced one OC who is key to the story. I have slotted them in in a canon compliant way. There is a healthy portion of Oni lore, Garmadon family drama, plenty of feels, and some lovely Jay & Cole moments.
Note: It is a different canon divergence to my previous Ninjago long fic Wojira's anguish, so you don't need to read that first (and will be confused if you expect it to be a continuation!). It is the same AU as my mother's day shorts, but they are not high on plot, so also don't need to be read first. The Jay chapter gets referenced once.
