The boy's face is swollen, bruised and bloodied, Bruce's stomach twisting at the sight. His arms, bound behind his back at the wrists, have stopped struggling against the ropes, his body slumped listlessly against the floor and his lips partially open to allow blood to trickle forth.

The room around him is strangely colorful for a hospital, all blue couches and polka-dotted green curtains hanging around his bed, the walls decorated in unobtrusive shades of white and teal. Little sea creatures decorate the walls in places, rotund, smiling seals playing with happy crabs and fish. "Where… am I?”

"Where are you t-taking me?" Leon demands, face flushing as he stutters. He can only imagine how rough his voice sounds after all that yelling. A tear trickles down his cheek, and the man grins, picking up his big hand and swiping it away. Leon cries out in protest, twisting away, but he can't escape the broad fingers that cup his cheek and turn his face back to centre.
The bag descends over his head a moment later, a helpless sob all Leon can manage before he's plunged back into shapeless darkness.

"Dickhead?" Jason asks, voice softer than Dick's ever known it to be. "Are you awake, Rip Van Winkle?"
"Mmm," Dick manages. His voice is hoarse and raspy, muffled even to his own ears with the mask pressed over his face. He wants to say something else, but all he manages is a slurred selection of incoherent syllables when he tries. Jason laughs sharply. Dick knows it's supposed to come across as aloof, but he can hear the concern hidden beneath the facade. It makes his lips twitch into a faint smile.

He gags hard on the rubbery taste, but the suction tube is still in place so it doesn't do much more than burn his throat.
"Oh, you can take it," the doctor teases from above, fingers squeezing Leon's trachea gently from the outside for a moment. It makes Leon choke again, the doctor's fingers tightening in response; quickly, like he can't help the reaction. "Though, you are a lovely specimen when you're in pain."

"What?" Leon asks, voice groggy enough that Piers knows he's still coming back online. He tries to sit up before Piers can stop him—only to cry out and collapse back to the ground, clutching weakly at his right shoulder with his free hand.

"Hey, rookie," one of his coworkers says with a grin, dark hair turned salt-and-pepper with age. His eyes are just as dark as his close-cropped curls and beard, alight with a kind of knowing gleam that puts Leon slightly on edge. "Bored, yet?"
"Maybe a little," Leon says with a laugh, reaching for another folder. "Is this what all of you guys do all the time?"
"Mostly! Not all that exciting here in the West end. Although—" He breaks off, glancing at what Leon assumes are his friends across the room. "We could switch tasks, if you like. Karen, Jeff, and I are supposed to do some inventory down in the firing range, and I'm sure you're eager for a change in pace?"

"Subject appears agitated," the woman remarks dryly, tilting her head towards the tiny microphone Leon can see clipped to her collar. A recording? "Please just relax, Mr. Kennedy, you're in good hands here."

Pain claws at his insides as the poison disperses into his bloodstream, head spinning as he stumbles and trips over his own feet on the way into the bathroom he'd seen in the hallway. The door hits his shoulder hard enough to bruise—or maybe he hits the door, it's hard to tell under the panic and vision-blurring agony squeezing his ribcage. Whatever he's been spiked with, it's fast acting, and the realization prompts a fresh wave of sweat as he staggers for the small bank of mirrors. -
