Summary
It only takes one unfortunate twist of fate to alter the futures of Flint and Silver forever. Early on in their journey, Silver contracts an illness that puts his brain and, consequently, the Urca’s schedule and Flint’s whole plan in jeopardy. When Flint is forced by circumstances to confront his strange fascination with their crew’s new incompetent cook, they develop an unlikely relationship that changes the course of Flint’s war and, inadvertently, his life and heart.
For all of Silver’s scheming, for all his careful balancing acts, it was Flint’s heavy-handed moves that had brought him to this fragile brink. And Flint, whether out of arrogance or ignorance, hadn’t seen it coming.
But Silver had. And he wasn’t going to let it stand.
No more silent swallowing of consequences not his own. No more pretending the captain’s games didn’t leave blood on other men’s hands. If Flint wanted to drag him into the fire, Silver would make damned sure he got burned too.Or: come for the sickfic, stay for the complex, developing homoerotic relationship between two idiots from the 18th century.
