Summary
Simon knew he was slowing down.
His heart was pounding with fear of everyone else noticing.
There’s no place for weakness in this task force.
No place for phantom pain of his old scars, no place for joint pain, no place of fatigue of his body pulled taunt by all the trauma, by living in constant fight or flight mode.
Every new mission gets him on edge, every mission he makes small mistakes, human mistakes, but he can’t afford to be human.*

Summary
"Good luck Captain" Soap sing-songed after him once he got up to go to his office. Price shot him a quizzed look and went on his way, although a bit more careful this time, not wanting to end up wet or covered in glitter like Gaz this one time Soap booby trapped their quarters to make revenge for eating a kebab he left on the table and was going to eat later.

"Love?" words finally broke through the thick wall around Simon's head. "Come on, go lay down for a while, yeah?" Johnny's warm hand finds the small of his back and Simon lightly flinches, coming back to himself.

Summary
Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish is declared K.I.A during a failed recon mission in 2017. His commanding officer, Captain John Price, takes the loss personally but has no other choice then to move on. He creates Task Force 141, keeps the bad guys scared of the dark, and hunts Makarov relentlessly - the man who killed his sergeant all those years ago.
Five years later, Price fights an assassin with a familiar face.
Spectre-07 doesn’t remember anything. Maybe he had once, but years of conditioning have stripped his mind bare, save for the instinct to kill. It's all he knows, all he craves; the blood of his target between his fingers, at the end of his scope or along the blade of his knives. He's a cold-blooded, empty headed machine, and he doesn't hesitate.
Until he does.

Summary
John "Soap" MacTavish goes KIA - just another kid taken too young, another Seargent lost to Price's war against feared terrorist Vladimir Makarov.
Price mourns. He meets a soldier named Ghost, a man called Gaz, forms a special attack force called Task Force 141 - but he never forgets Soap.
Until suddenly, Soap isn't dead.
Spector-07 is one of many, a dastardly troupe of highly trained, demonic butchers at their master's call - an attack dog on a leash. He doesn't remember much of anything from the Before; bits and pieces of patchwork soul, not enough, not concrete. Even though he questions more than he should, he's not going to risk the pain.
Until he does.
Between meeting new (and old) friends, fighting for his life on more than one occasion, and an insurmountable number of injuries, Spectre-07 learns to be Soap again.
And even better - he learns to be Johnny.

Summary
The potatoes rattled against the sides of the pot as the water began to boil. Simon adjusted the flame lower.
It had rained for days back then. The sound of it on the hospital windows blurred into the machines beside the bed, steady and repetitive. A nurse had told him to talk. Said it helped patients in comas.
Simon didn’t.
Outside, the light stayed grey most of the time. Johnny didn’t open his eyes.
Simon found himself missing the clear days with blue.

Summary
Robby follows him as Jack starts working on the coffee, taking a seat at the peninsula that divides the kitchen from the rest of the apartment.
“You still like it burned or have you gotten better taste since last time?” he teases, throwing a quick glance at Robby, who makes a face at him.
They don’t do this often, crashing at each others’ places. Jack honestly can’t remember when exactly that last time was. Close to a year, he thinks, a Pirates game with a rain delay that then went into extra innings. It’s not that they don’t hang out when their schedules allow for it, it’s just that there’s always been more of a distance in their relationship outside work, like somehow the halls (and roof) of PTMC allow for more vulnerability than the halls of their own homes.
“At this point I'll take whatever you give me and I'll like it,” Robby says, definitely with a grimace this time.
