Chapter Text
Marcy buried her head further into the issue of Bridal Guide that Sasha had handed her 20 minutes earlier. Marcy, Sasha, Darcy, and Anne all sat around a table at a cafe. Magazines and notebooks were scattered across the table as Anne and Sasha spitballed various plans back and forth. Darcy jotted things down in a spiral notebook. These wedding planning sessions had become a weekly occurrence since Sasha and Marcy had gotten engaged almost a year ago. Things were getting down to the wire. The wedding was in less than three months and Marcy still didn't have a dress. She had been trying things on for months but nothing fit her in the way she'd liked...Not to mention the stress that comes from picking floral arrangements, cake selection, seating, bachelorette parties, everything! Marcy felt dizzy. She took a sip of her drink and continued to leaf through the magazine. Seeing the smiling faces of the fresh faces, cleanly dressed, brides and grooms staring back at her, made her stomach churn. Sasha fidgeted beside her, and lightly slung an arm over Marcy's shoulder. Marcy leaned weakly into the touch.
"How are ya makin' out, Babe?" Sasha asked, Marcy.
"Fine." Marcy replied, ignoring the lump in her throat. She stared intensely at the couples in the magazine.
"You look tense...Whats going on?" Sasha asked quietly.
"Nothing...Just looking at these pictures...." Marcy replied.
"Those are staged and corny." Darcy interjected.
"Aren't you just a ray of sunshine today?" Anne laughed. Darcy rolled her eyes, but laughed too. Marcy's stomach churned harder. Anne really knew how to go with the flow...She really knew how to handle the moodiness. Marcy couldn't relate...The stress was definitely starting to get to her and Sasha. They had been arguing a lot as of late. Usually they had better communication skills, but yet little things were starting to set them off. Sasha was a bit of a bridezilla, and Marcy was passive. Marcy basically forced herself to hold her tongue to keep Sasha happy. It was exhausting, but it prevented clashing.
"Did you two ever reach a consensus on the cake thing?" Darcy asked. "We have to place an order too if we wanna actually get one on the day." Darcy said.
"Yeah, Marble." Sasha nodded. Darcy raised an eyebrow.
"Really? Thats surprising...Marcy hates rmarblet." Darcy replied. Marcy tensed. Leave it to Darcy to throw a wrench in her plans.
"I don't hate it." Marcy stated, flipping to the next page.
"She said, she was fine with it." Sasha said.
"Marcy, what did you want?" Darcy asked, ignoring Sasha.
"Red velvet." Marcy replied.
"See, now that makes much more sense." Darcy replied.
"Ha, thats cute!" Anne chuckled.
"Mar, why didn't you tell me you wanted red velvet? I would've been willing to adjust," Sasha asked.
"You had your heart set on marble." Marcy said. "I didn't want to start an argument."
"Why would it start an argument?" Sasha questioned. Marcy shrugged. "If you want red velvet we can do red velvet." Sasha huffed. Marcy deflated slightly.
"But if you wanted-"
"Marcy, its fine. Just drop it." Sasha stated, cutting Marcy off. Well now Marcy just felt like crap. Tears welled lightly in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away.
"I'll be right back." Marcy said standing. "I have to use the bathroom."
"Hurry back." Anne called. Marcy nodded. She slowly made her way toward the bathroom.
When she was almost back to the table she over heard the conversation at the table.
"I don't know, I mean I love her, but this type of thing pisses me off...We're gonna have to go back through everything and make sure it's actually something we both want. Jesus, why did she have to do this...?" Sasha grumbled.
"Oh, I know, she's been like this our whole lives..." Darcy sighed. "Always eager to please. It's a little disheartening..." Marcy's eyes widened, she glanced around the store quickly as tears welled in her eyes again. She looked toward the door to the building. She made a quick decision and slipped out the door. Marcy began to walk. She had no clue where she was going. Tears fell down her face as she thought about all the arguments and her own behavior over the whole planning process. They had gotten into a screaming match over flowers for god sake! She wiped roughly at her eyes. Marcy continued down the sidewalk folded in on herself. Her phone rang in her pocket. Marcy pulled it out.
Incoming call from
Dar Dar <3
Marcy contemplated answering, but she decided to let it ring. She noticed a few texts from Darcy too. Marcy hesitantly opened her phone.
Dar Dar <3
Marm, are you okay?
Did you fall in or something?
Marcy, are you alright?
I'm cool
Marcy text back. Not waiting for a reply she repocketed her phone and kept walking.
After wandering around for a half an hour, Marcy opted to just turn off her phone. She was sick of how frequently it rang. She just wanted a moment to herself to breathe. Call her stupid for at least not telling someone where she was, but she was an adult. She could walk by herself if she wanted to. Yes it was dangerous and risky and a bad idea, but god she really needed a break. She contemplated going to the library, or the game store or something, but they'd look there first. She hated how right they were...It made her head hurt.
Marcy actually opted to go into a bridal shop. She had to anyway...She sadly leafed through the dresses, loving them, but knowing how dreadful they'd prolly look on her. She took one off the rack and surveyed it. It was beautiful, but she would definitely trip over it. She shrugged and went to a fitting room. A really nice attendant coming to help her.
"So, when are you getting married dear?" The lady asked, helping Marcy into the dress.
"A little under three months..." Marcy sniffled.
'Oh wow, pretty late in the game for dress shopping..."
"I know...I just...couldn't find one I liked..." Marcy admitted.
"I'm sure your future husband will love whatever you wear." The lady replied. Marcy's face scrunched up. "Whats his name anyway?"
"Sasha." Marcy replied. "Her name is Sasha."
"Oh, apologies for my mistake! I bet she will love whatever you wear." The lady corrected herself.
The first dress was way too frumpy, and the subsequent ones weren't much better, but finally she tried on a very simplistic dress that fit her nicely. Marcy beamed at her reflection.
"This is it..." Marcy gasped. "This is the one I want!" The lady excitedly helped her out of the dress and Marcy quickly purchased it. She walked out of the bridal shop feeling a lot better. She had planned to make edits to her dress on her own, so she was basically set! Marcy finally opted to turn on her phone and was gobsmacked to see that she had been in there for almost three hours. Her phone had also been effectively blown up. She had tons of missed calls, voicemails, and unread texts. Marcy ignored them. She was already scared of what would happen when her friends found her. Now she felt even more like a burden...as she continued to walk she was stopped abruptly by a young man.
"Sorry, I hate to bother you, but are you Marcy Wu?" He asked. Marcy nodded. "Yeah, you got three women looking for ya. I'd hurry and find em...One of them was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, another was about ready to kill someone, and the third was almost in tears...”
“O-Oh...Okay...” Marcy said. “Thank you...”
“Good luck.” The man said as he kept walking. Marcy gulped and hesitantly crossed the street. She walked quickly, lugging her dress along with her. She froze when up ahead she saw a very tired looking Anne talking to an older woman, and holding up her phone.
“She looks like this. She’s currently wearing a pink zip up sweatshirt, a Metallica t-shirt, and denim jeans.” Anne said, letting the woman examine the picture. Across the street a little further up the block was Darcy performing a similar action to Anne. She looked pissed. Marcy held up the dress to block her from Anne and Darcy’s view. She successfully made it past them and hauled down the block, only to collide with someone. The two clattered to the ground.
“Oh shit...Sorry!” The other person said. Marcy froze. Figures it was Sasha. “Um, sorry for knocking you down...” Sasha said, holding out a hand. Marcy nervously took it, clutching her dress bag in front of her face, she trembled slightly. “So, basically, we’re trying to find my fiancé Marcy Wu. She’s been missing for almost four hours, and none of us have heard from her...She looks like this.” Sasha held out her phone to Marcy. Marcy peaked over her bag, Her face flushed, as upset as she was, Marcy had to appreciate that the photo Sasha picked was nice. It was from a mutual friends birthday party a few weeks ago. “If you see her, please tell her that her families looking for her and were really worried.” Sasha rambled. Marcy nodded and continued past Sasha, her heart pounded in her chest as she heard Sasha’s shuddering breaths behind her. Marcy’s phone rang from her pocket. Her face paled. Oh no...The ringing immediately stopped. Marcy heard footsteps pounding up the sidewalk behind her, and before she could even react, she was swept up in Sasha’s embrace. Sasha spun her around and clutched her tightly. She sobbed into Marcy’s hair and squeezed the smaller girl tightly. “What the hell Marcy! Where have you been?!” Sasha yelled angrily through her tears, pulling back from Marcy. “Why didn't you tell me it was you?!”
“Didn’t want to.” Marcy stated. Sasha blinked at her.
“What?” Sasha asked.
”I heard what you said after I went to the bathroom. I’m sorry for making your wedding planning difficult with my avoidance of conflict!” Marcy snapped.
“Are you fucking kidding me?! You disappeared into thin air for almost four hours, because of something insignificant! Marcy, I thought you were dead! I thought something happened to you! But no, you vanished over something I was venting about then went shopping?! Jesus god...” Sasha muttered.
“Well, I’m sorry that it hurt my feelings!” Marcy shot back. “I’m entitled to have those you know.”
“You are! But you should’ve at least given us a heads up! Something as simple as a text would’ve been fine! I was so fucking scared Marcy...!” Sasha replied.
“I’m an adult Sasha. I don’t need a babysitter!” Marcy huffed, hating how easily the anger came out of her. She loved Sasha so much, but she was so angry...
”I know! You are an adult! I didn’t know where you were! I thought something happened to you!” Sasha shouted in exasperation. “Look, I’m sorry for being a jack ass and not clueing into your unhappiness more...I was so blinded by my excitement to marry you...I let that blind me from whats more important...” Sasha sighed. “Babe...I’m really, super, 100% sorry...” Marcy’s face dropped.
”I’m sorry for running off..” Marcy muttered. “I just...I got really upset...and you and Dar didn't even say anything that bad...I guess I was just upset about everything thats been going on...We’ve been fighting a lot...”
“We have...I promise we’ll try to fight less, hun...” Sasha said softly. Marcy sniffled and nodded. The girls embraced again. “I love you, baby...”
”i love you too, Sashy...” Marcy replied, leaning up and gently kissing Sasha. They pulled back and Sasha pressed her forehead to Marcy’s.
”What’d you buy?” Sasha asked.
“My wedding dress.” Marcy admitted. Sasha’s eyes lit up.
“Can I see?”
“No...You gotta wait...” Marcy said.
“MARCY?!” Darcy screamed from further up the sidewalk.
”Mar Mar oh my god!” Anne exclaimed, as the two women ran at Marcy and flung there arms around her. “Marcy, I’m so glad your safe!”
”Where the hell have you been?! Do you know how dangerous that was!?” Darcy rambled. Marcy sighed and nodded.
“Yes I know...We’ll talk later...I need to go home...We all have a lot to discuss and assess...” Marcy said. It was gonna be a long night...
