Summary:

Shouto and Katsuki under a lamppost on a drunk walk home.

Notes:

I've been taking twitter prompts for drabbles in the hopes of feeling creative again.

Inspired by Coco's lovely prompt- "lamppost." The moment I saw this prompt I wanted to write something quiet and ambient for it- I hope drunken yearning is a flavour you like and I hope you enjoy this <3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

This lamppost is perfect, Shouto thinks as he wraps his arms around it, flushed cheek pressed against blessedly cool metal. Just the right proportion of lamp and post. He’s overheating- not because he’s too drunk to do fine body temperature regulation, but because the concentration it would take to maintain it is occupied with sighing in relief at his newfound heat sink and remembering why getting back home is important.

“That’s unhygienic as fuck, Halfie,” Katsuki drawls as he approaches Shouto from behind.

Shouto frowns, insulted as he is on behalf of his new friend. Katsuki’s far too warm to be a viable replacement for Mr. Post anyway. “You’re such a-“ Shouto has to take a few seconds to remember the phrase he’s looking for, “ssuch a wet blanket.”

“A wet blanket, huh?” Katsuki says with a level of calm and fondness(?) that proves that he is also fairly drunk himself. “That the thanks I get for walking your sorry ass home?”

“Bold of you to assume my ass has ever been sorry for a thing in my life,” Shouto shoots back, feeling a swell of pride at his quick response time.

“Christ, you’re spending too much time around Denki,” Katsuki grumbles as he walks past Shouto and turns around to face him.

Shouto’s response dissolves in his mouth when he manages to focus and the two Katsukis in front of him finally solidify into one. Illuminated as he is by the lamp above Katsuki’s hair shines like a fiery crown of gold, glows like a halo woven from pure light.

You’re beautiful, Shouto thinks. Says out loud, accidentally, if how the flush on Katsuki’s cheeks deepens is anything to go by.

And suddenly, all Shouto can think of is how to make that happen again and again and again.
