Work Text:
“I’m so sorry.”
That was the last thing Morgan heard before he felt a hand on his back and he fell.
The water was colder than he’d been expecting, but that’s usually how it feels.
It was so dark out.
He couldn’t see anything.
It felt like things were getting darker and he tried to swim or do anything.
But Morgan found himself unable to do so.
Morgan gasped for air one final time before everything went dark.
He felt the water seeping into him as he sank deeper.
Everything was cold and dark and empty.
And he was alone.
Alex clicked through the tv stations for a seventeenth time.
They sighed and rolled their head back.
“What’s taking him so long,” They groaned.
Kotetsu whined next to them.
Alex looked over, “I don’t know what you want me to do. Morgan was the one who agreed to watch you then took off because he had an ‘emergency at work’.”
There was a soft knock at the door.
“It’s unlocked, come get Kotetsu already.” Alex called.
Barnaby opened the door adn stepped inside, “Kotetsu, it’s time to go.”
Alex watched Kotetsu jump off the couch and walk over to Barnaby.
“Where’s Morgan?” Barnaby stuttered.
Alex shrugged. “He said something big was happening at work and he needed to go take care of it and asked me to look after Kotetsu until he came back.”
“Oh. Well, thank you, Alex.”
“Whatever. Just tell Morgan to get home soon.” Alex waved him off.
“I haven’t seen Morgan all night? I was out with Ohio.” Barnaby answered.
“I send out a message to all of his nemesiseis to ask them to hurry it up then.” Alex sighed.
Barnaby pulled out his phone and looked through a chat for a moment. “No one is with Morgan… No one that we know of. Are there any m-”
“No. That chat has everyone that’s considered a nemesis to Morgan in it.” Alex answered, cutting him off.
“Why not teleport them back here?” Barnaby asked. “I you’re getting worried.”
“I don’t get worried.” Alex said. “I’m not worried. I’m just… bored.”
“Alright, I’ll let you know if I hear from Morgan then.”
“Yeah, do that.”
“Thanks again,” Barnaby said as he left.
Alex rolled their shoulders and settled back in to continue trying to find something to watch for the night.
Alex woke up and looked around.
They paused for a moment. “The apartment is still empty… Morgan never came home last night…”
They stood up and walked out of the apartment, over to Barnaby’s door and knocked on it, harshly.
After a couple minutes the door opened slowly. “Alex?”
“Where’s Morgan?”
“What?” Barnaby asked, groggily.
“Where is Morgan? They didn’t come home last night.” Alex repeated.
“I don’t think anyone sent a message about him being in the hospital or anything. Let me check.” He stuttered, walking back into his apartment.
Barnaby returnned a moment later, scrolling through his phone. “There’s nothing here.”
“Okay so no one knows where he is?” Alex asked.
“I don’t think so.” Barnaby answered.
“Then this is perfectly justified.”
“What is?”
Alex snapped.
There was a thud and then silence.
Alex turned and walked back into Morgan’s apartment, leaving Barnaby confused in his doorway.
“Morgan, it’s about time. Where the fuck have y-” They stopped.
Morgan was bluish and pale and clearly not breathing.
Alex snapped again and Morgan gasped for air, sitting up rolling over and coughing up water.
“Holy fuck,” He sputtered between gasps for air and coughing.
Alex walked over and gently placed a hand on Morgan’s back.
Morgan continued to cough and gasp for another several minutes.
He collapsed onto the floor, still breathing heavily.
“So who did this?” Alex asked, watching over Morgan.
“I don…. I don’t know…” Morgan whispered, voice still hoarse.
I’ll figure it out.” Alex said with a shrug. “You want breakfast?”
“I just woke up from dying…. And you’re offering me breakfast…?”
“Fresh coffee?” Alex offered instead.
Morgan slowly started to push himself up, quickly being helped up onto the couch by Alex.
A warm cup of coffee was placed into his hands.
“Thank you,” Morgan whispered.
“You missed movie night.” Alex said, pouting.
Morgan blinked a few times. “I’m…. sorry?”
“you should be.”
“Okay.”
“Oh. Oh! You’re not okay.”
“No… I’m not…”
“Shit, right. Most people aren’t okay after dying and coming back to life. My bad. You want a weighted blanket and one of those shitty movies you like?” Alex offered.
“That would… be nice… thank you.” Morgan mumbled.
Alex snapped and tucked Morgan in on the couch. “I’ll just… I’ll get started on some soft foods.”
“Thank you.”
