Work Text:

Ever since Ravio saved them, all Legend has been getting are questions about the merchant. It’s been two weeks. So it’s safe to say Legend is beyond sick of the group. How many times does he have to tell them that Ravio isn’t dangerous? Well, it’s a blatant lie. Ravio is extremely dangerous, but it's annoying that they refuse to believe him.

Do they not trust that Legend can handle one merchant? If anything, his wallet is in more danger than he is. They don’t know the first thing about Ravio. Sure, he is fucking creepy sometimes and blatantly insane, but he is still a good person… well, if he likes you anyway. Which is fair! Legend doesn’t expect everyone to be dripping in charity like these heroes are.

Ravio stunts rarely affect others in a bad way; they're more self-destructive if anything… well, if he ignores the stunt that got Ravio into prison. Still, no sane person would break their soul just to protect someone. Just to protect a hero who should protect himself.

Is it wrong that Legend doesn’t mind being saved by him? By someone who nearly caused a world to fall apart.

Is it wrong that Legend understands where Ravio was coming from? That Legend also had to choose to destroy a whole world to save it? That Legend sees himself in Ravio more than he sees himself in incarnations of his own soul?

And fine, yeah, Legend will be the first to admit that Ravio isn’t trustworthy, but Legend still trusts him with his life. Ravio has never done a thing to hurt him. So the fact that these assholes refuse to trust his judgment is beyond offensive. He has been on more quests than all of them. He has seen enough shit, been through enough shit to know when someone's attention is good or not.

So every time they ask about Ravio, Legend ignores them. Walks away if he has to. Sometimes, he’ll make a point to flip them off if the question pisses him off enough.

He can’t walk away during his watch rotation. Which means this gives Warriors the chance to corner him.

Wars sits down beside him, but far enough that Legend can’t reach him, annoyingly enough. He was ready to ruin that hair if the man even uttered Ravio’s name. He keeps his gaze on the surroundings because even if Legend wants to get up and walk away, he knows better than to ditch a shift.

He can’t tell if he hates the silence more than the questions that are coming. He knows Wars is going to say something, but the wait is beyond annoying. Legend just wants him to spit it out so he can tell him to fuck off.

“Has he ever mentioned a war?”

Wars finally speak, breaking the tense silence like glass getting hit with a hammer. Legend gaze turns to Warriors, and the man is staring into the flames.

“He…”

Legend starts but looks away, looking into the flames as well.

“He doesn’t talk about himself.”

Legend decides to say after a few seconds of silence, only disturbed by the crackling of burning wood. Wars doesn’t say anything, doesn’t even fucking move. Legend debates looking at him to see if his expression will tell him anything.

A war… for all he knows, maybe Ravio was in that war that Wars talks about. It wasn’t hard to assume that was what Warrior was talking about. Ravio has never mentioned any sort of war, but the way he acts sometimes… Legend can see the scars of the battlefield in Ravio.

“Really? The Ravio I knew wouldn’t stop talking.”

Wars says, and the words piss Legend off. This damn pretty boy is talking like he knows Ravio better than Legend.

“Ravio doesn’t know how to shut up.”

Legend grits out in a clenched jaw. He grabs the fire stick beside him and pokes at the fire to make sure it doesn’t die, but mostly to keep his hands busy.

“Good to know that doesn’t change. Still… I’m surprised you’re his Mr. Hero.”

Legend tenses at the title. It feels mocking, but he knows Wars doesn’t mean it that way. Wars isn’t the type of person, but he has no idea what the fuck type of shit Ravio even said about him.

“Ravio is a good liar. You shouldn’t believe anything he said.”

Legend spats out. Wars goes quiet again, and just as Legend thinks the topic is dropped.

“He doesn’t act like the Ravio I know. Ravio acted like a jester half of the time, wasn’t the type to leave people to die despite his cowardly tendencies-“

Legend hisses in a breath through his breath.

“Then maybe you don’t fucking know him because Ravio is nothing like that.”

Legend growls out low enough that it won’t wake anyone up. It’s enough that Wars gives up and walks back to his sleeping bag. Legend doesn’t watch him leave, eyes stuck on the surrounding forest.

Ravio isn’t like that, right? He knows that the war lasted a long time. Maybe, Warriors got to spend a longer time with him compared to Legend and Ravio, who barely spent a year living together.

That isn’t fair. Legend didn’t know Ravio would get out of prison, that Ravio would live in his house while he is stuck on a quest.

Is Legend jealous that Wars seems to know Ravio better?

Is he hoping it was only a mask that Ravio likes to flaunt?

Does Legend wish he were the only one who truly knows Ravio? Is that why he refuses to answer any questions?

He just hates the idea of everyone having any interest in Ravio.

Fuck, Ravio is going to make so much fun of him.

He doesn’t think about when exactly Ravio would have had the time to go to war. Doesn’t think that maybe that was Ravio’s future. He doesn’t think of that possibility because Ravio really does look like a battlescarred soldier to him.
