Summary
He glances back up to her. The way he looks at her is leagues apart from the way that Ellie looks at her. “If that works for you, that is.” Owen is looking at her with what almost seems like admiration. It’s this kind, committed, hopeful look that feels like a goddamn spotlight.
Meeting Ellie’s eyes feels like a challenge, not in that it’s hard, but in that it feels like she’s egging you on to something. Like she’s looking for something, not at someone. It makes Joan want to say or do something to impress her. Makes her want to want to light a spark behind that endearing and calculating calm.
“Friday after school every week works perfect,” she responds.
She decides that both of their eye contact is equally good, but God, does it feel uncomfortable. They’re unlike many other people that Joan spends time with in that just talking to them, just looking at them feels like something intimate, and frankly, she doesn’t know how to respond to that.

Summary
The year is 1815, many years since Samantha Barnes was last home, and she desperately hopes that she'll be able to hide her trips from the new visitors on her doorstep. Mark Bryant hopes that he too can keep his shit together, even when a face from the past resurfaces at a masquerade ball and threatens to pull his whole life apart.
She takes a breath and turns the knob, swinging the door open to reveal a man and a woman stood waiting on her doorstep.
“Hello!” the man exclaims with a smile. “I knew there was someone here.”
“I’m sorry about my brother,” the woman grimaces. “We’d just heard you arrived here and wanted to welcome you to the area. My name is Joan Thompson and this is my brother, Mark Bryant.”
“Nice to meet you, m’lady,” Mark winks and Joan nudges him in the side without breaking eye contact with Sam.
“I’m Samantha,” Sam rushes to say. “Samantha Barnes, that is.”
“It’s lovely to meet you, Miss Barnes,” Joan smiles, her tone friendly but her eyes sharp and critical. Sam becomes painfully aware of the dust that still covers her dress.
“Oh, I — thank you, I suppose,” she mutters nervously. “It’s odd being back here.” -

He can smell the scent of decay and somehow he knows he's drawing closer to the Gathering Spire. The intricate shining webbing that held it tall was hard to miss, and the flashing light from The Beyond could be seen in even the darkest of nights. Now, it was his only beacon in the swirling winds that surrounded him. He has to reach the spire. He has to.

Summary
PODFIC of write_away's fic my power was constricted in my heart
Prince Byron Marcus Bryant - or, as he prefers to be called, Mark - has been in love with his servant and food taster, Oliver Ritz, ever since he was accidentally poisoned five years ago, but that's hardly his biggest problem right now. The King, his father, deeply despises aberrants, people with abilities outside the norm, and Mark... well, at least he's not the heir. The king wants him to be normal; Mark just wants to belong. The tension comes to a head at Mark's sister's engagement feast when a slow-acting drug gets past Oliver's test, and both men find themselves incapacitated and kidnapped.
To their surprise, they are rescued from their certain fate by a trio of young aberrant -- or atypical, as they call themselves -- women trying to gather supplies for their camp. Despite misgivings and fear of the King's vengeance, the girls grudgingly take the men back to their settlement of atypicals in the woods where they can begin to discover who they really want to be.
Tl;dr: A vaguely fantasy medieval royalty AU about finding love, trust, family, and acceptance when you’re not sure you deserve it.

In the Georgiana era London Jon discovers a statement that may (as much as he hates to admit it) be true. While he follows the clues Jon eventually puts together the holes in the tale and finds the story does not line up in a way he expected.
Also I get an excuse to write Jon in a old timey period fic.

Summary
Jon squints up at the block of apartments. The sky behind it is dark grey, threatening rain. Some of the windows are lit, and some of them aren’t. Tim lives in Flat 15, according to his employee records, so pretty high up.
-
There’s a cat staring out of a ground-floor window. Looking straight at him. It looks just like the Admiral, ginger and fluffy. It meows, silent, and puts one of it’s paws up onto the glass.
Jon smiles at it, thin and thready. “Hello,” he says, though there’s no way the cat can hear him over the storm.
-
“Seatbelt,” Basira says. Jon reaches up, pulls the belt across his chest, clicks it into place. Safe and sound. Basira turns the key, and the headlights light up. It’s raining, a low patter against the roof of the car as they pull away.
-
Jon’s not sure what the proper procedure is, when waiting for your coworker to blind herself. Outside, beyond the reinforced glass doors, rain hammers into the pavement.
-Jon tightens his grip on Martin’s hand. It’s soft, a little damp, the fingers slightly curled inward. “Not much further,” he says.
-----
Five unrecorded moments. It's always raining somewhere.

Summary
Arkady punched Rodrick Quincy Cresswin III. His parents practically own Harmony College and Arkady knows she’s going to get expelled. That is, unless she can find a way out, and fast. Sana, Arkady’s mom friend since childhood and her current RA, is recruited to keep an eye on Arkady and watch her. Watch the dangerous way her eyes drift off as she paces, like she’s looking for any escape and she’s going to find one Sana won’t like. Sana goes out to the garage and puts the final touches on the van, the one her boss said was unfixable, and they find another way out. The two of them recruit Violet, an anxious freshman, and grad students Krejjh (the only one Sana knows with a driver’s license) and the lovingly abducted Brian on a road trip complete with late night, inexplicably space themed diners, hotels with suspiciously few twin beds, and a few gentle interventions.

Summary
The year is 1811.
Carlos is a prolific writer of gothic novels featuring everything from ghosts and spectres to vampires and beyont. In years past, he was producing around a novel a year, maybe two if he was particularly lucky, and the public seemed to drink his words in like wine. Lately though, his inspiration has been dwindling. Barely able to put pen to paper, Carlos plans a retreat into the countryside as a last-ditch effort to regain his spark.
As he's packing the last of his things, he recieves an invitation to the duke's annual foxhunt. Intrigued by the offer, he decides to attend, thinking that perhaps a break in the form of this foray into high society is just what he needs.

Summary
On paper, one would describe Juno Steel as a knight. He’s gone on more quests than he has fingers, saved his fair share of immediately disappointed damsels, and he even has Rita for the world’s most underappreciated squire. The reality is a little more complicated than that. Knights aren’t supposed to have a nobly rebellious streak, nor are they supposed to have their squire write down long and rambling trails to cover their tracks. More than anything else, knights really aren’t supposed to have feelings for any rogues they hired en route to a dragon’s den. That would be a problem for Juno if he did have any feelings for this Peter Nureyev guy. Obviously. Why would you ever suggest that? Of course not. Definitely, 100% not.

It thinks they’re strange in a very pleasant way; the way Commander Minkowski hums tunes to herself even though no one is watching, or the strange noises that come from Doctor Hilbert’s lab on a very regular basis. The way Eiffel talks to the void outside like he’s expecting someone to interrupt his musings. Hera’s many monologues and little experiments with herself and the ship.
(There’s an awful lot you can see from the vents. Space Mutant Plant Monster, on her crew, itself, and humanity.)
