Shane Hollander is a freelance concert photographer with a day job at a camera shop, a bank account in active distress, and a long-standing professional fixation on Ilya Rozanov, front man of the Russian rock band Rozanov. Professional. Definitely professional.
For years, Shane has shot Ilya from the pit: first three songs, no flash, get the shot, get out. Then Rozanov’s lead guitarist gets arrested at the border, the tour starts rearranging itself around disaster, and Shane finds himself getting closer to the machine than any photographer is supposed to get.
A photo pass becomes a backstage pass. A backstage pass becomes a job. Access becomes proximity.
And proximity, unfortunately, has consequences.

Will doesn't say anything, and Mike cups his cheek in one hand while the other rests against the wall slightly above his head as he leans in, lips brushing against Will’s ear.

It’s 1993. Will has left Hawkins behind him. He's built a decent life for himself in New York City, a life without Mike. He has an apartment along with amazing friends who take him to a concert for a new upcoming band without knowing the man front and center on stage is the very man he's been desperately trying to dig out of his brain for the last four years.
He listens to the meaningful lyrics, and he feels a rush of resentment hit him with the weight of a bus. He hates Mike for making him feel like he was just seeing things, like there was nothing there, but there always was.
Will can't keep telling himself he doesn't hold a grudge. His anger quickly overtakes his pain, and he takes it all out on Mike.
Can Mike get Will to forgive him? Can he convince him to go on tour with him, move into his apartment with him in LA, or will he fuck it all up?

It's 2005, and the first date of Vans Warped Tour.
Shane wasn’t sure how long Ritual Actions had been together, but based on the scraps of evidence he had sorted through online- bootlegged shows and rogue pieces of internet gossip, he thought that it was about the same time as his band, Nature of Emergencies.
They were elusive, and that only added to the intrigue. Their vocalist had moved to Boston not long before he'd joined the band, and in interviews his English was still stilted at times, but when he sang… it was almost harrowing, the raw feeling that lined the rough edges of his lyrics.
All of Ritual Actions promo photos imitated their presence online, shrouded in shadows in mystery, and all the videos of their shows were grainy and taken from far away. All of this meant that Shane still had no idea what any of them looked like, or even what their names were. All he could find online about their frontman was a last name. Rozanov. It sounded Eastern-European, maybe Russian, he thought.
