That was when he saw them.
The two figures were folded over each other on the ground, a ring of dark shapes crumpled and curled around them. Webbed, membranous wings fluttered lifelessly in the wind, lifting at odd angles like plastic bags on the interstate.
But Steve could barely see them.
His ears rang, his vision reduced to a greyish tunnel as he recognised the wooly texture of Dustin’s ghillie suit.
No.
Steve’s feet tripped beneath him as he staggered down the hill, moving towards them.
No hero moves, his thoughts washed through his mind in a seasick, rolling fashion. He could already see the dark wash of blood, soaking the ground like ink around them, as he bolted forward.
I said no hero moves.
…
Steve Harrington, ex-lifeguard and babysitter extraordinaire, happens to be blessed with knowledge of first aid. Eddie is the recipient of this aid, and as he recovers he must learn to live with the fact that he owes his life to a prom-king with a 12 step haircare routine. This would be easier if he didn’t find said prom king so uncomfortably attractive.
And if the world would stop ending for five minutes.

He can’t breathe.
The tail yanks, and suddenly his back is slamming into the hard ground, the impact detonating every wound. He feels it all, and it’s agony. Ripping, shredding. The worst pain he’s ever known.
His heart stutters and kicks in his chest as his mind screams at him to get back up, to run, to do anything to survive; but he can’t. He’s pinned down, spread eagle on the dead ground, a storm of wings and teeth closing in.
Red lightning flashes above him, bathing everything in crimson, reminding him that he is in literal Hell.
He’s being eaten alive, and all he can think as the pain starts to blur is, I’m not ready.
Please. Not like this. Not now.
Please.
And then, from somewhere above all the madness that has become Eddie’s entire existence, a shape plunges into the wild fray. A human shape. An avenging angel, wielding a weathered baseball bat filled with bloody nails like it's a prayer in the dark.
An answer to his silent plea.
Steve.

Steve knew that he wasn't the most intelligent man in the world. He was never very academically gifted. He had never found any passion or hobby that required special knowledge. He didn't have any skills that set him apart from the majority, really. Something Steve did have, however, was social skills and he knew that he was good at reading people. So, he certainly never expected to be in a situation where Robin was explaining social cues to him.

“I'm old enough to do a lot of things,” Daniel steps in closer with a cocky little smirk. He's almost taller than Armand, but has a way of twisting his body until he's looking up at him, putting himself into a submissive role. His heart rate speeds up. Armand wonders if he's aware that it's fear, not arousal, that makes his body react this way. Daniel's mind seems to be confused on the point.
Armand leans over Daniel's shoulder, looking at the array of handkerchiefs on display. “I see that.” He can feel Daniel's breath on his neck as he reaches over and pulls at the end of one of them, tugging it out. “What is this one for?” he asks, waiving it in front of Daniel's face. It's bright orange.
The boy shrugs, his grin even wider. Satisfied. “Anything goes. If you pay enough.”
Armand raises his eyebrows. “You shouldn't give people blanket permission to do anything they want to you. Some people are monsters.”

Summary
Steve Rogers does not do things like this. He does not wander down to the abandoned piers at the end of Christopher St. in the night, looking for anonymous men to pick up. He is an outstanding son and citizen, taking care of his mother with the funding he gets from his proper job on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange and thinking of himself absolutely last. He does the right thing. He has to. He has to. He has a vice grip on his life that just might be starting to come loose.
Bucky Barnes does do things like this, often. He drifts in and out of cities, looking for whatever work he can find and whatever men will have him. Back in Indiana, he was kicked out by his family after being booted out of the closet and has only, years later, found himself in the seedier parts of New York City, embraced by a brotherhood of gay men who are deeply passionate about their motorcycles. His life isn't pretty, nor what he pictured as a boy, but it's his and no one can take it from him.
When these men crash together in the New York City of 1970, what kind of trouble will they get into? How long will it last, as different as they are?

“You were raised Catholic, weren’t you?” Soap’s not expecting a question in response to his own, let alone one so out of left field, and Ghost can sense the indignation forming on his lips before he even responds, so he moves before the bratting can begin in earnest. A firm hand pushes down on Soap’s shoulder and despite his confusion he allows it to lead him down onto his knees. Ghost doesn’t remove the hand, but does lift one boot and rests it on Soap’s firm thigh. “It's worship, Johnny.”
