Rengoku can bear a lot. His death that is just around the corner. The deal he had to make with the demon he should have killed long time ago. Even the fact that the desire to kill this demon has transformed into something else, something inexcusable for any demon slayer. The only thing Rengoku cannot put up with is losing his way. As long as he can breathe, he will continue to follow it.

Kyojuro fails in a way unseen before in the entire history of the Corps. So spectacular is his failure that the rest of the Pillars unanimously decide to strip Kyojuro not just his Pillar status, but his status as a demon slayer entirely.
Both without a blade and a purpose in life, Kyojuro returns home. And at the lowest point in his life, Shinjuro decides to reach his arm out and push his son even further down.
And in that moment, Kyojuro decides that his dad really, really needs to die.
And he knows just the guy who can help him.
There will be AkaRen. And also bloodshed.

After barely surviving a vicious attack, for reasons he can't explain, Kyojuro has moved hours away from his family and friends, to the very same area where he nearly died. No job, no one he knows, nothing except a multitude of chronic pains and issues. On top of that, his bizarre neighbors have decided they dislike him for reasons he doesn't understand. His fresh start isn't exactly going to plan.
It isn't long before a strange local takes an interest in him, and Kyojuro can't help but link him to the creature that almost killed him. As if he needed any other reason to feel like he's slowly losing his mind. But something about Akaza just doesn't feel right, and for all his neighbors' hostility, the Soyamas don't seem to want their estranged family member anywhere near him either.
All Kyojuro wanted was to move on, but the monster responsible for ruining him is refusing to let go.

Over a year after Kyojuro’s death, Akaza cannot shake the feeling of having made a mistake by killing him. Curiosity draws him to the Rengoku Estate, where he discovers that Kyojuro has a younger brother. Naturally, he seizes the opportunity to have a different but surely equally skilled person to fight, and kidnaps Senjuro.
Upon discovering that Senjuro is not, in fact, a skilled fighter, hope and boredom compel Akaza to mould the boy into a worthy opponent. Senjuro, hopeful for a chance (however slim it might be) to avenge his brother, agrees to stay.
For the next two years, they form a bond based on tension, skill, growth, promises, and lies. In the end, their goals and futures will be forever changed by having known and cared for one-another.

While he struggles to adjust to this new reality, Upper Moon Three has also found him once again and now haunts him like an ever-persistent shadow. Akaza has no recollection of the time they spent together, and despite Kyojuro’s best attempts to remind him, seems determined not to remember.
