“Losing you is going to hurt Steve, but I promise I will heal. I’ll be okay. You don’t have to worry about me.” Eddie says with a deep breath.
“I watched you die in 1986, and it was terrible, I don’t want you to have to watch me die Eddie. I can’t do that to you. I won’t do that to you.” Steve says softly as he lies in their bed, while Eddie holds his hands in an effort to warm them up. It’s November of 1989, and even though Eddie has the heat in their apartment turned up, Steve’s hands always seem to be cold lately.
“I’ll be there with you, and it will be my greatest pleasure.” Eddie says softly. “I’ll hold you until you’re gone. I won’t let you go alone…”
Or: Shit hits the fan when Steve Harrington gets diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

Summary

Summary
Neil is used to the perpetual feeling of dread like a bruise in his gut, the impending feeling of doom at the slow glide of a door creaking open, or the heavy fall of footsteps on the stairs. From a very young age, Neil has taught himself to disappear. At the flip of a switch, he can be whoever he needs to be to survive.
For his father, he falls into the role of obedient son, cruel and quiet and bloodthirsty. For his mother, he is a perfect soldier, docile and moveable and easy to control.
As much as he has grown to morph and manifest into something he needs to be, Neil has been finding it hard to be anyone but himself around Andrew.
