Summary
In the Vale of Thorns, Mike the Brave loses Will the Wise, the wizard he loves, to a realm of living shadow — and makes a promise to find him. El, dragon-girl with cut wings, joins his quest. Along the way they gather others: a Dustin the bard who talks too much, Lucas the marksman who never misses, Steve the Paladin who never backs down, Max the Rogue with a broken heart still beating. None of them are heroes. All of them stay anyway.
They run toward a door that leads beneath the world. They find other people, who join them on their quest. This is a fantasy story, first and foremost. Swords and sorcery. Ash and ice. A party, scattered but unbroken, finding each other in the dark — and discovering that the dark finds them back.

Shane believes in locker room code. Ilya believes in consequences. So when the Metros start running their mouths about Shane, anonymous dirt starts hitting the internet: affairs, gambling debts, condoms “that don’t feel good,” substance abuse, secret kids, and worse. Funny how every insult aimed at Shane seems to cost someone a little more of their reputation.
Shane says nothing. Ilya posts everything. And by the time anyone figures out what’s happening, it’s already too late.

A player gets a little rough with Shane, and takes a cheap shot that hurts him. Not severely, but enough to enrage Ilya. So much that Ilya goes after said player the next time he plays against him. Oh, and when Ilya has a grudge on someone, it's SERIOUS.

He threw his bag into his lap. Unzipping it, he fumbled inside before pulling out a smaller drawstring pouch. It clacked with the movement, and he opened it, before emerging with a small figurine.
Inbetween his fingers, he presented her with a small knight. His paint was scratched and worn from years of use. He had a sword and a shield, and his armor was pretty rough. He'd seen better days.
"This is Mike The Brave," he explained. "He goes on these missions called dungeon crawls, where he pretty much fights evil wizards and monsters and … stuff."
He bit his cheek, feeling a little self conscious.
"But … Mike The Brave is never scared. So whenever I feel scared or nervous, I just pretend he's with me, and I feel better."
Mike's hand fell, and he squeezed the figurine.
The body can’t live without the heart. On the night of a crawl, Mike Wheeler is taken.
OR
Young Mike is in Camazotz and has to venture through memories to return to himself.
