Summary
Breath seizing, Ilya hovers over the call button and presses on Shane’s name. Fidgeting in front of his locker, he puts the phone to his ear and listens to the ringing. And ringing. And ringing.
He really doesn’t like this at all.
The call goes to voicemail. It cuts right through the bone, to his soft center, where it hurts most.
Clenching his molars, Ilya hangs up and searches for Yuna’s name on his contact list. If any of the guys try to talk, he doesn’t hear them, doesn’t hear anything but the sound of his reeling thoughts.
Pressing Yuna’s name, he brings the phone to his ear again. She picks up on the second ring.
“Hey,” Yuna sounds surprised, “what’s up, hon?”
Loosening his jaw, chest panging, Ilya asks, “hey, have you heard from Shane since game ended?”
“Uh,” Yuna’s phone switches ears, “no, why?”
Fuck.
“Can you check on him?” Ilya tacks on a “please” that comes out desperate.
A beat of concern passes. “Yeah,” Yuna says, drawing out the word, “can drive over right now. Has he not told you about,” her pause is purposeful, and Ilya knows what it means, “yet?”
“No,” Ilya says, sick to his core, “I have bad feeling.”

“Hey,” Ilya says softly, “look at me, okay?”
Swallowing thickly, Shane blinks to disperse moisture. He looks over at Ilya, who studies him attentively, as if nothing that’s happened in the past hours mattered. As their gazes connect fervently, Ilya gives Shane’s hand a squeeze.
“I’m okay,” Ilya says, “I’m okay.”
There’s a tinge of desperation, to make him believe, and Shane’s blanket of assurance drops. A shadow eclipsing his mind, he murmurs, “you don’t look okay. What happened?”

Summary
It’s a chorus of confusion. Mike does not move. No one approaches him.
And Will barely reacts. That alone, in Mike’s opinion, is damning.
Mike holds tight to his gun, index finger on the trigger, and does not look away from Will’s face, not for a second. He does not explain himself, despite Hopper and Nancy and El and Mrs. Byers closing in on them, hovering as if a bomb was going to go off.
Instead, the edge of a growl emerging, Mike speaks only to the monster: “Get out of Will now.”

Summary
Will’s voice unravels, a rolling carpet, “I don’t see a way out of this where no one gets hurt, Mike.”
Mike knows that’s true. But he presses his lips together for a long second, then releases, “you’re not getting hurt again.”
Flashes of Mike’s life back when Will went missing fly by, all of them carrying a bone-deep sadness. Mike doesn’t want to go through that to a worse degree. Mike shifts his focus up to Will, his best friend’s expression conflicted. It means Will is listening, truly listening, and Mike yanks forward the truth shouting from the back of his mind to the forefront of his tongue.
“If Vecna wants to hurt someone,” Mike says, “he can have me.”

Summary
As he tries to lift his feet, he finds he cannot. A square of light binds his feet to their current position. Inching his eyes down and ahead, he identifies a pathway of these very same bright tiles. His aching neck pain dulling in intensity, Jim’s gaze follows the pathway to the end.
A thick glass box, tall and rectangular, contains an energy shield on all sides for confinement. Jim squints to see what’s behind the wall.
Spock’s face reflects back at him, slashed with green blood on one cheek and covered in grime. Jim’s knees wobble.

Originally a standalone fic, the first installment has now spawned a trilogy because I've lost control of my life! Part 1 is a season 4 era slow burn; parts 2 and 3 explore AU versions of s5 and s6, respectively, where spuffy are in an established relationship throughout.
Parts 2 and 3 are planned/mostly written! Other fics in this universe, including missing scenes, bonus content, and possibly an AU s7 (but don't hold me to it) may be to come.
