“Croissant…” Timekeeper spoke. Their voice was soft. It didn’t sound right. They never sounded like this. It wasn’t the normal type of soft. It was too light, too delicate, as if it’s taking them all their energy just to speak. As if they will crumble the next second.
They removed their hand from the hole in their face. “You’d all manage even if you’re without me.” They stated, as if it was fact. Like they already knew.

…guilt exploded in Croissant’s chest, causing her to let out a sob. She couldn’t help anyone. Not the employees of the TBD, not her friends that were dragged into the whole mess due to her own negligence, not String Gummy, not… She mumbled under her breath to nobody, “I’m sorry…” as if simple words could take back what she’s done.
“For what? It wasn’t your fault.” An overly familiar voice spoke, its tone somber and matter-of-fact.
Time felt as if it froze at that moment. Croissant knew she shouldn’t hope, but she couldn’t help it, just as she couldn’t help missing them, missing the simple days gone by, missing that mischievous smile that made her feel comforted, like everything was alright … She shot up in her seat, opening her eyes, looking around frantically.
And there Timekeeper Cookie sat atop her (their?) desk, with an unreadable expression, a smile much different from what she remembered.
