Summary
"I can't do this anymore, Cisco," Caitlin says, and she sounds close to tears, and her eyes are stinging, but she's pretty sure she's not about to start crying. Not again. "I . . . I can't come back. Not here." She can't sit in that control room and watch someone else die.
"Barry's going to be fine." Cisco is leaning forward, his tone halfway to pleading.
Incredulity mixes with despair, dripping off him, and part of Caitlin wants to comfort him, and part of Caitlin doesn't care. She can't come back here.
Or: In a weird, roundabout way, Ronnie's first death brought Team Flash together. His second death might just break them apart.

Summary
When Niko, working her way through the Dead Boy Detective Agency's entire extensive library, finds a way to banish David back to Hell once and for all, Crystal can't say no to her. It doesn't matter how much she doubts her own capabilities or if she doesn't really want to face David again. They need to get rid of him. For the agency. For Crystal herself.
Except David isn't interested in going quietly into that good night, and their carefully laid out banishment doesn't work. And Charles? Charles has never been interested in seeing his friends hurt. When David tries to pull Crystal through one of his portals, Charles takes her place. Now, while Niko hangs back at the office to come up with another solution to banish David, Crystal and Edwin have to track David down before he can destroy Charles' existence, send him back to Hell, and, oh yeah, turns out what they need might be genuine forgiveness from one of David's victims—aka, Crystal's old friends.

Summary
Charles shakes his head, as if distressing over them disparaging the agency’s name, but Crystal can see him trying not to smile. She exchanges her own grin with Niko.
“How did you guys pick the name the first time?” she finds herself asking, and then: “Not even just the name, really. How’d you guys decide to be detectives in the first place?”
That does get Edwin to look up from his desk. He exchanges a long glance with Charles, that kind where they have a whole conversation in seconds. Crystal can’t read them nearly as well as they can each other, but she can see the amusement and fondness bouncing between them. Edwin rolls his eyes and concedes to Charles with a slight nod.
Charles, grinning gleefully, rubs his hands together. “Right. Get ready for the story of a lifetime, girls.”
Or: Charles and Edwin tell a few stories.

Adjustment isn't their thing, it's Mari's. They find things for people. Find routes of safety. Sneak them out of danger. Transport and procurement, that's their thing.
"I know." Mari's eyes go to Edwin. "I know. I'm sorry. I know we shouldn't, but..."
It hits Charles like a punch to the gut. Whatever power this new girl has, it's dangerous to people. Dangerous enough that Mari doesn't feel like her crew can handle it.
Dangerous enough that they want Edwin.

Summary
When Edwin looks up, it is to the sight of Charles turning to face him—and to wings folded neatly on Charles' back. The tinge of sorrow that has been settled in Edwin's breast since the boy first spoke to him spreads out, like a pair of wings itself, stretching to every corner of Edwin's soul. It was only inevitable. He aches regardless.
There is color, in Charles' wings, Edwin can see that much, though in the dim lighting, with Charles partially turned toward him, it is hard to distinguish exact shades. There is certainly more color than in Edwin's own mostly white wings, tipped and edged in black though they might be. He imagines they'd be beautiful, stretched out, caught in flight, the colors there matched by the color returned to Charles' skin, the brightness of his smile.
He will not get to see it. Death and all her cruelties will be along soon enough, and her wings will take Charles somewhere that Edwin cannot follow.
Or: Death grants ghosts wings.

Summary
Sometimes, Charles' fear looks like this: desperately begging for another chance, promising to be good, to do better, to get it right next time. Sometimes, Charles' fear looks like a grin and a laugh and a compliment. Sometimes, it looks like silence, like pushing down his doubts, like an apology. But it can't be fear really, can it? Because Charles is perfectly fine.
Or: The Dead Boy Detective's current case involves authority figures abusing their power, ghosts desperate to be seen by the living, and a gun with iron bullets, and Charles is handling it just fine, thank you very much.

Summary
"Alright, that's it," Charles said. He surged forward, swinging his bat at one of the sprites. The sprite jumped backward, laughing gleefully.
Edwin was already pulling his rope out of his pocket.
"You go right, I go left?" Crystal asked him, wry and grinning. Maybe Charles was right; it had been a while since she'd been part of a proper scrum. Granted, her knees wouldn't thank her in the morning, but she was still technically young. Might as well live a little, right?
"If you insist," Edwin said wearily.
Crystal found her grin getting a little wilder as she laughed herself and dove for the center sprite, the one to the left of the two remaining. It might have been a while, but her body hadn't forgotten how to execute a good tackle.
Or: In the not-so-distant future, the boys call Crystal for help on a case. It doesn't quite go as planned, but what's a minor stab wound when you're among friends?

Summary
"Oh my God, do you have a fucking death wish?!" Crystal hurried forward, urgency and panic driving her on.
The ghost that was touching the iron, was delicately arranging the floral rope over the iron fence without so much as a flinch, startled at her cry, jumping backward. His hands were black and smoking, and his eyes wide and fearful as he looked around for the source of the shout.
Or: Crystal Palace Surname-Von Hoverkraft makes a new friend at the cemetery. Unfortunately for her, he's completely insane.
