Summary
“What happened to a united front?” She asked, getting emotional. It wasn’t her fault she was emotional right now, she had an insane amount of hormones running through her body.
“You tell me.” Buck finally turned and looked at her. “You never told me you were getting so close to them again. I had no idea you were talking to them frequently enough to be able to invite them out, let alone that they would actually agree. You told me when you first got here not to tell them you were here, and you have never asked anything about our relationship since then.”
“What’s there to tell?” Maddie huffed, getting to her feet and walking over to him. “Seriously, you accepted me so easily, why would they be any different?”
“What’s our motto?” Buck asked quietly.
“What’s that-”
“They aren’t bad people, just bad parents.” Buck said, cutting her off. “Or did you only ever say that for my benefit?”
“Buck.” Maddie said his name sadly. “Please.”
“No.” Buck said, shaking his head again. “No, and if that’s all you wanted to talk to me about you should go.”
OR
When Maddie tries to get Buck to agree to see their parents while she's pregnant, he says no.

Summary
Finding the meeting was a complete accident. Buck had just been walking around, trying to clear his head. At first he’d just thought it was a normal bereavement group meeting. And since his latest attempt at a relationship was dead, he had actually died for a little while, and he was constantly dealing with life and death situations on the job, he figured it wasn’t a bad place to be. Except then the group leader stood up and started talking about their sister who was fighting colon cancer. And … actually, everyone who spoke was dealing with a family member or close friend who was fighting cancer or who had passed away from it.
OR
Buck accidentally wanders into a support group for people who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis for a family member/friend. And he realizes that he never actually sought out or got support for learning he was a savior sibling. Opening up to strangers going through what he was going through was easier than he thought.

“I thought it was one of those made-up movie places.” Buck shrugged, finally handing Hen his ID. “You know, like the coffee shop in ‘Friends’ or Hogwarts.”
“So how the hell did you get a license?” Eddie asked, sounding nearly as hysterical as Bobby, but Chim had disbelievingly repeated ‘Hogwarts?’.
“I knew a guy.” Buck sighed.
“Oh my god.” Chim burst out laughing. “You have a fake ID!”

Summary
Eddie's head snapped up. One of the SWAT officers was pointing at a portable monitor set up near the command vehicle—a live feed from the news broadcast still streaming from inside the school. The camera was shaky, the angle awkward, but it showed a hallway.
And there—*there*—was Buck.
Eddie's breath caught in his throat. Buck was in the middle of the corridor, and he was fighting. Not running, not hiding—*fighting*. Hand-to-hand combat with one of the shooters, brutal and desperate. Buck's face was streaked with blood, his shirt torn, but he was moving with the fierce determination of someone protecting something precious.
The camera zoomed in slightly, and Eddie could see it now—the way Buck had positioned himself. The storage closet door visible behind him. The way every move Buck made was calculated to keep the shooter away from that door, to use his body as a barrier.
"The boys," Eddie said, his voice hollow with realisation. "They're in that closet. That's where he hid them. He's—" Eddie's voice broke. "He's protecting them."
Or Buck is taking the boys to Christopher’s science Fayre when a school shooting starts. We see how Buck fights to keep his boys safe and how Eddie rushes to save themBookmarked by BlueRubyBeat

He willingly plays the villain, letting Bobby, Maddie, and the crew believe he chose greed over loyalty, and exiles himself to Florida to help Christopher heal in secret. Back in LA, Eddie must silently endure a resentful firehouse, anchored by a devastating truth: "If the choice is between you and Christopher, you will lose every time."

Everyone was perfectly polite to him. They greeted him at the start of the shift and wished him a good 48 off when he left the station, they didn't give him dirty looks at the table and communicated about work. But Buck couldn't remember the last time someone asked him how his weekend was, involved him in a joke, or casually touched him. He couldn't remember the last time anyone touched him on purpose at all. Everyone kept a very safe distance from Buck. "Did you know I tried out for the Navy SEALS?" he asked to the room at large, knowing full well he only ever talked about his failed endeavor with Bobby and Eddie. It wasn’t so much the failure to go through with it that had kept him silent, it was what it had brought to light.
For once he saw the distaste towards him drop from the Buckley’s faces, they both looked bewildered by his choice of topic. Margaret looked like she was about to interrupt him but he didn’t let her, earning a pointed glare from Phillip for it.
"You probably aren't aware what that entails. Sure, everyone has heard of BUD/s. Hell week. The physical requirements. But there's a step before that. They want to see some documents. Your High School Diploma, your last addresses, things like that… most importantly though, they want your birth certificate."

“Why are you so pissed at me?” Buck demanded, glaring at the brunette across from him.
“Because you’re exhausting,” Eddie said, pushing his shopping cart away as he moved closer to Buck who froze at those words. “All of us have our own problems, but you don’t see us complaining about it because we just suck it up, so why can’t you?”
Buck was silent for a minute, opening and closing his mouth several times before finally finding his bearings. “You wanna know why I can’t just ‘suck it up?’” Buck spit, eyes full of something dark as he stared at his best friend.
